The Beautiful Island of Sardinia Hotels
Though essentially Italian, Sardinia has a relaxing ambience all of its own, with many customs, crafts and cuisine that have been preserved for centuries, including an indigenous language that even most Italians find difficult to understand fully! Make no mistake, Sardinia is NOT an over-developed tourist trap - but it is a huge series of beauty spots with an understated presence of holiday accommodation of all kinds. Archaeological remains suggest Sardinia has been inhabited for around 4,000 years, and intriguing stone tower remains (nuraghi) are scattered across many inland landscapes. The jewel of Sardinia is the 10km stretch of coastline known as Costa Smeralda (which roughly translates as Emerald Coast). Situated at the north east coast between the gulfs of Cugnana and Arzachena, the Costa Smeralda is so named because of the beautiful subtle emerald hue of the sea, and boasts a good number of small towns and villages that discreetly double as cosmopolitan resorts attracting an eclectic range of holidaymakers from all over the world.
A recently developed resort, Port Rotondo has existed only since the late 1960s so there's a sophisticated - and even an undeniably fashionable - feel to the narrow natural stone-built streets that are home to a fine selection of restaurants, bars and designer shops. The harbour is significantly upmarket, and it's worth a stroll to see the huge yachts that are invariably moored here. Corti di Marinello: Porto Rotondo, Sardinia, Italy is it for me? Situated around 120 miles west of the Italian coast, Sardinia is a
beautiful island boasting stunning landscapes; from the wonderfully
fragrant and lush inland mountains to the picturesque harbours and
fishing villages and, in the Costa Smeralda, one of the most beautiful
stretches of beach coastline in the whole of the Mediterranean.

Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean, strategically located
between Italy and N Africa. Roughly triangular in shape, it measures
about 180 mls from the E to its W tip and a maximum of 120 mls N to S
along the E coast. The generally mountainous interior rises up to the
11,000-ft Mount Etna, Europe's largest active volcano. Steeped in
history spanning thousands of years, there is no shortage of sites to
visit and for those seeking relaxation, there are beaches at various
points around the coast. Airports are located at Catania and at the
capital Palermo.
